Skype installation on CentOS 8
To install Skype on your CentOS 8.0, follow these steps:
- Open a terminal window on CentOS 8.0.
- Type the following command to login from root user.
Download the Skype rpm file on your CentOS 8.0 and make sure that you have a good internet connection. To download the latest version of the Skype package from its official page using wget command. Run the following wget command to download Skype:
It is recommended that you always download the latest version of Skype and that should be compatible with your operating system. Once the download has been completed, you will install it on your system.
Install Skype using dnf package manager
After completing the rpm file download, now you will install the downloaded Skype package using the dnf install command. Run the following command on the terminal to install Skype:
$sudo dnf install skypeforlinux-64.rpm
During the installation, it will confirm from the user that either wants to complete the installation of Skype or not. If yes then press “y” and further proceed. After that, a message will display on the terminal which represents the Skype installation has been completed.
Once the installation has been completed now it’s time to launch Skype on CentOS 8.0. To launch Skype on your system run the following command on the terminal:
Congratulations! Skype has been successfully launched on your CentOS 8.0.
To launch Skype using a desktop, click on the “Activities” option present on the top left corner. After performing this action, several icons will be displayed. Click on the “Show Application” icon. Here, you can see the skype application.
Activities -> Show Applications -> Skype
