How to install Firefox Browser on Debian 10

Firefox is an open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation. It is the second most popular browser after Google Chrome.

This tutorial demonstrates how to install Firefox on Debian 10 from its command line. There are different ways, but we will focus on installing a Firefox from the official Debian repository.

Prerequisites

You need to have a good Internet connection for the installation to work.

Updating the package repository

Open up the terminal and execute the following command with root privileges.

apt-get update

This may take several minutes to complete depending on your Internet connection.

Installing a Firefox from Debian repository

Once you have finished updating the package repository, it is now time to start installing the Firefox.

Open up the terminal and execute the following command on the terminal with root privileges.

apt-get install firefox-esr

When you are prompted, press Y from the keyboard. Wait for the installation to finish. This may take several minutes to complete depending on your Internet connection.

Launching  Firefox

Firefox can be launched by an ordinary user. Run the following command on the terminal.

firefox

Removing Firefox

When you want to remove a Firefox, run the following command on the terminal.

apt-get purge firefox

When you are prompted, press Y from the keyboard. Wait for the process to complete.
