How to Install TeamViewer on Debian 10

TeamViewer is a popular application that can be used for desktop sharing, remote support, online meetings and file sharing between remote computers. It is a cross-platform application and can run on Windows and Linux, this means that you can use it to help friends and family remotely with Windows problems from your Linux desktop. Teamviewer is free for personal use.

In this tutorial, I am going to describe how you can install TeamViewer on Debian 10.

Requirements

You need to ensure the following for a successful installation.

  • Root privileges
  • Good internet speed

Getting Started

Login with the root and update the repository using the following command.

apt-get update

This may take several minutes to complete. Sit back and relax.

Downloading TeamViewer

First of all, you need to download the teamviewer .deb package.  Run the following command on terminal,

wget https://download.teamviewer.com/download/linux/teamviewer_amd64.deb

This may take several minutes to complete depending on the internet speed.

Download TeamViewer Debian package

If wget command is not working for some reason, you can install it by using the following command.

 apt-get install wget

Installing the TeamViewer

You have successfully downloaded the teamviewer, you can now install it using the following command.

apt-get install ./teamviewer_amd64.deb

When you are prompted for a confirmation, type y and hit enter from the keyboard. Again, you have to wait 5-10 minutes for the installation to finish.

Running the TeamViewer

Finally, you can run the teamviewer to verify its successful installation. Execute the following on terminal without root privileges.

teamviewer

Accept the license agreement to continue.

You will have TeamViewer on your screen. You can use it to access or share your desktop, transfer files and conduct meetings with your friends.

Removing the TeamViewer

If you want to remove the TeamViewer from your system, execute the following on terminal with root privileges. When you are asked for a confirmation, type y from the keyboard.

apt-get remove teamviewer

Remove TeamViewer

In order to verify the removal of TeamViewer from your system, execute the following without root privileges.

teamviewer

You will get an error that no such file or directory exists.
